Men’s Mental Health Support

Mental health problems can affect anybody, but gender discrimination and shame can make people uneasy to open about their experiences and seek help. The societal gender norms that men should be “tough” and “fearless” further confuses this issue as many men feel they are not a “man” if they show any sign of weakness. Men may fail to recognize or act on cautionary signs and may be reluctant or unable to seek help. Men are less likely to access psychological therapies than women and suffer in silence because our societal norms wrongly taught males to mask their emotions and feelings to prove themselves.
